Narrative

Petrus or Peter Barringer was born in 1749 at Rhinebeck Flatts, Dutchess County, now Columbia County, N.Y. His Revolutionary War pension application in 1833 provides the bulk of the information we have on this patriot. Both before and after the war Peter lived at Red Hook, N.Y.

He was called to service while living at Livingston Manor. He served with his wife's brothers and brothers-in-law in the Livingston Manor regiment, the 10th N.Y. Militia. His best known engagement was at the turning point in the Revolutionary War. He settled in Williamstown, Oswego County, N.Y. in 1805 and resided there until his death.
